Woman Falls In Love With Service Dog. 10 Years Later, She Finds Out He’s About To Be Euthanized

Pat Farnsworth has spent most of her adult career and life training dogs for active duty and service. But it wasn't until she was training at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, that she met Bogie. Bogie, who would soon be recruited by the Green Berets, one of the special forces units of the military, would change her life forever.

"I don't know what the connection is, but I trust him with my life," Pat recalled, talking about Bogie.

Pat trained Bogie, but it was more than that. They developed a special connection that could not be broken.

As a Belgian Malinois, Bogie's obedience and intelligence made him the perfect candidate for special forces, so the K-9 was recruited by the Green Berets — which broke Pat's heart.

"I cried because my ex-husband retired from special forces. I know what they go through,” said Pat.

But there was nothing she could do. Bogie was recruited, and they lost each other.

Yet, it was not the end. For 10 long years, Pat searched for Bogie, for any news or update on him.

The K-9 had been deployed overseas in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Some of his missions are still classified to this day.

Finally, in early 2017, she found Bogie again. The dog was done with his career as a K-9, but Pat encountered another hurdle.

If he wasn't adopted, he would be euthanized, and service dogs are almost exclusively adopted by combat handlers.

Pat was at risk of losing Bogie again, and forever.
