It's not uncommon to hear stories about animals who seek shelter under the hoods of our cars. It's especially common in the wintertime, as the cold weather drives them to warmer nooks and crannies.
But even in fairer weather, animals like squirrels and cats can find their way into places where they probably shouldn't be. One woman discovered this after driving 40 miles.
She didn't realize that there were six newborn kittens along for the ride — under her hood.
The driver arrived at her destination and heard high-pitched squeals coming from under the hood. She opened it and looked around, then found the kittens with their umbilical cords still attached. They looked to be about two days old, according to Margo Cicci, who helped care for the animals as part of the Homeless Cat Management Team.
But it wasn't enough for the kittens to be rescued. The team needed to get find the mother cat, as well. Her babies needed her, and she had to be spayed so that she wouldn't have any more little ones.
Margo and her colleagues recorded the cries and squeals of the babies, then returned to the location where they believed the mama was. They played the recording and set a trap.
It took awhile, but the mom was lured by the sound of her kittens and fell right into the trap. She was then transported to where they were. After being cared for, they are now safe and healthy!
Please SHARE if you're glad this mom and her kittens could be reunited, all thanks to these crafty rescuers!
