Dad And 5 Kids Are Walking By River When Dog Sniffs Out Desperate Bald Eagle Caught In Trap

Animal traps might be commonplace in Anchorage, Alaska, but it's not every day that the Perkins family comes across them. Especially when the animal trapped is a national figurehead.

Koby Perkins and his five children were four-wheeling along the Knik River with their dog when the pet quickly discovered an animal caught in a trap.

"It tried to fly away and there was a trap stuck to its foot," Koby explained. The animal stuck was nothing other than a bald eagle."

Koby's daughters noted that the eagle was blinking its eyes and definitely alive, but unable to fly because of the sophisticated metal trap.

Nina and Cassidy Perkins worked together to help their father open the trap and document their work via video. Koby knew to call wildlife troopers to help free the bird and follow up with next steps. Saving the bird was never a question for the family, but they were thoughtful enough to ask how to care for this rare creature.

While the bald eagle population is slowly increasing, the family was very smart and took the right precautions by alerting the authorities!

Luckily, the majestic bird took flight again and the Perkins kids decided on a thoughtful name for the bald eagle: "Freedom. Freedom Liberty Justice."
