There is no greater pain imaginable than that of losing your family in a tragic accident. And Stephen Sampson knows that pain too well, after the devastating fire that brought down his home in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.
Not too long after the fire, Stephen's teenage daughter died in the hospital from wounds that occurred during the fire. Four years earlier, Stephen lost his wife to cancer.
It has been a truly traumatic and overwhelming several years for Stephen. But still — he pushes on.
After the fire in January of this year, it was unclear how Stephen would recover. Then an organization called Carpenters For Christ came in and changed everything.
Volunteers from the community, along with local sponsors like Swofford Career Center, came together to create a new home for the Sampson Family.
"It was nothing that any one person did. It was a joint effort," Mike Ravan of Carpenters For Christ, explained.
After several months of work, the organization gave Stephen the keys to his new, fully-furnished, four-bedroom home.
He was overcome with emotion and tried to thank every single person who helped with the project in any way.
"I cannot believe how this has turned out. My wife and daughter are looking down right now at us," he said through tears.
