Sergeant Antoine Gibeau had been deployed in Africa for the past 11 months, away from his wife Alisa and their three kids: 9-year-old Tyler, 7-year-old Gavin, and 5-year-old Madison.
When he finally came back after such a long time, he and his wife decided to organize a special homecoming surprise. And it was all made possible thanks to the kids' school principal.
"Prospect Elementary School, even though it's really big, we're truly a family. So, it is definitely a reunion for them, but in a sense, it's a reunion for all of us," said principal Rima McGeehan.
Indeed, just as Principal McGeehan stated, Prospect Elementary School in Prospect, Connecticut, is big. For the special assembly organized in the video below, a whopping 600 students were gathered together.
Including Tyler, Gavin, and Madison.
But what started out as an assembly to acknowledge student accomplishments segued into the perfect opportunity to have Sergeant Gibeau surprise his kids.
"I can't even describe it. It's so amazing! I didn't sleep at all last night," he said in the video below.
Principal McGeehan got on the microphone and informed the students and faculty in attendance that she was about to bring out a special guest.
That's when Sergeant Gibeau came out, rose in hand.
