For many veterans, adjusting to everyday life can be difficult. Many suffer from illnesses and injuries that prevent them from holding or getting a job.
Too many end up homeless and on the streets.
Richard Campbell and Catherine Schultis are a veteran couple that desperately needed help. They were homeless, with a baby on the way. In fact, nine months in, Catherine hadn't been able to see a doctor once throughout the entire pregnancy.
Needless to say, the couple was afraid of what would come next. They didn't want to raise their child on the streets. Catherine was selling poetry and art to help them get by, but it wasn't enough to get them a comfortable home.
But Richard and Catherine may have gotten a new start, thanks to the local community and, in particular, a stranger who saw them on the street and in desperate need of a home.
Police reached out to an organization that could help them. Now, they're living in a motel, and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help them get the necessary supplies before the baby is born.
Though Richard and Catherine are far from living comfortably and still without a permanent home, they remain optimistic about the future. Richard even says that, for once in his life, he's happy.
