Generally speaking, my dogs are well-behaved. They come when called, and they will sit or stay. More or less, they aim to please.
Believe it or not, no dog is perfect (although many may come close). My dog may have been the "demonstration dog" at obedience class, but even star pupils are subject to the occasional accident.
While I do admit that it's annoying to clean up my dog's poop, it's extremely hard to discipline her when she looks so guilty. In fact, sometimes I can even tell from the look on her face that there is something to be cleaned up before I even notice the problem itself.
Whether dogs know that they're getting out of trouble or not just by looking guilty is unclear, but we can all agree that it's not easy to be mad at such a cute face.
