Calista the pit bull doesn't have the average dog story. Hers is much deeper and serves as a source of inspiration.
The poor pit bull dealt with years of abuse and was found wandering all alone on the streets of Phoenix.
According to the Dodo, police officers spotted Calista, caught her, and took her to a nearby shelter. Mayday Pit Bull Rescue took action and contacted a woman named Jeannette Goldsberry and her husband, asking if the couple would be able to foster the rescued dog.
After hard days of recovery and relearning how to live her life with her new foster family, Calista soon found her way. Today, the pit bull is a long way from her days on the street when she was first discovered.

When Calista was first discovered, she was in bad shape. According to the Dodo, police officers in Phoenix noticed that "the dog’s ears had been bitten off, which suggested that she’d been used in dogfighting, possibly as a bait dog."
She started living with the Goldsberry family, with whom she began her recovery. With time, her ears were treated. In an Instagram post, the family explained, "The most notable thing about Calista, was that despite her pain and fear, she was gentle, cautiously trusting, and there was hope in her eyes."
"She was terrified of many things, including jingling keys and food," Calista's new family noted on Instagram. "Our local rescue group, Mayday, picked her up and brought her straight to the ER vet. We agreed to foster and saw her every day while she underwent multiple reconstructive surgeries and intense medical treatment for the tick borne diseases. … She is the epitome of a pit bull; resilient, courageous, loving, strong, and forgiving."
Today, the Goldsberry family brings light to Calista's situation. The sweet pit bull's ears have healed, and although her head looks very round, her foster family often makes light of it, comparing her to a seal.
Calista's smile is so powerful, considering all that she has been through over the past couple of years. She's a real fighter, isn't she?
Thanks to all the care she's received, this pit bull now knows how to flourish and love humans and other animals again. So what's the best news of all?
