What to Know
Far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has a stark warning for President Donald Trump. In a post on X Tuesday night, Jones — the host of the “Infowars” podcast — wrote that the “knives are out for Trump.”
Jones included a video of Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) being asked hours earlier about whether Americans who have appeared in the Jeffrey Epstein files should face further scrutiny.
The reporter specifically mentioned Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who confirmed on Tuesday that he took his family to the late convicted sex offender’s private Caribbean island in 2012. During his testimony before the Senate Appropriations Committee, Lutnick maintained that he had nothing to hide and noted that he did not have “any relationship” with Epstein.
In response, Thune said he believes that “ultimately what happens” will come down to the reactions of the American public.
“What I’ve been for — and I’ve been very clear about this from the outset — is full disclosure,“ Thune said. “Get the information out there. Let’s have transparency, and I think that’s being done.”
“For people whose names appear, or in some context might be in the Epstein files, they’re going to have to answer the questions around that,” he continued. “And I think the American people are going to have to make judgements about whether or not they think those answers are sufficient.”
The Justice Department has released nearly 3.5 million investigative pages tied to Epstein’s sex-trafficking case after the Epstein Files Transparency Act passed through Congress, which compelled the DOJ to make the documents public. Trump signed the bipartisan effort into law last November, reversing course after repeatedly calling it a “hoax” pushed by Democrats.
A number of high-profile figures have appeared in the documents — which were released in separate drops on Dec. 19 and Jan. 30 — including Trump and former President Bill Clinton. Both have denied any wrongdoing and have not been charged with any crimes related to Epstein.
Jones emphasized in his post that “this is the transparency we demand,” adding that “every name must be released and every question answered now.”
Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have both agreed to testify before the House Oversight Committee later this month after they faced a threat of a contempt of Congress vote by House Republicans. Democrats have warned that Trump will eventually testify, arguing that the GOP has set a precedent over the ability of Congress to bring in past presidents and their family members — and potentially hold them criminally liable if they refuse.
Jones’ comments quickly raised eyebrows on social media.
“Fat lady is singing,” former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci replied. Another user said that the “only one with knives out for Trump are back stabbers like you Alex.”
In a separate video, Jones also claimed that Lutnick should resign over past comments about his relationship with Epstein as neighbors in 2005.
The remarks come as Trump said last week that it’s “really time” for the country to move on from Epstein after the DOJ’s latest dump of documents. During testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi faced questions from Democratic lawmakers about why additional people are not facing charges for Epstein-related crimes.
