Kyle Plush was a kind and vibrant 16-year-old who had his entire life ahead of him. Like most teens his age, Kyle loved spending time with his friends and played a lot of sports in his downtime, including tennis. He even had hopes of playing tennis in college after he graduated high school.
Similar to other kids his age, Kyle was always vying for independence and loved to be able to drive himself and his friends around wherever they needed to go. He often drove his family’s van to tennis practice and various social events with his friends.
One day, he was late to a tennis match and proceeded to speed his way through town to try to get there on time so he wouldn’t let his team down. His mom had warned Kyle about receiving speeding infractions for careless driving, but sometimes his heavy foot would take over without him even noticing his speed.
When Kyle arrived at Seven Hills High School, he went into the backseat of his 2004 Honda Odyssey van to retrieve something and tragically never emerged again.
According to ABC News, Kyle was trying to get some tennis equipment out from the back of his van when he became “trapped in the third-row bench seat.” Somehow, when Kyle was in the back seat of the van, the bench seat “flipped backward and the force and weight trapped” him upside down with his head in the rear well and his legs up in the air.

During his time trapped in his van without any nearby help, Kyle managed to make two calls to 911. Unfortunately, the dispatcher and Kyle experienced difficulties hearing one another and emergency services did not make it to the Seven Hills High School parking lot in time.
