What to Know
Caitlyn Jenner is upset about how some of President Donald Trump’s policies are impacting her and other trans people, but somehow, she doesn’t blame Trump for that. During a recent appearance on “Tomi Lahren is Fearless,” Jenner complained about how she can no longer use her passport thanks to Trump’s anti-trans executive order. After Trump signed the executive order on January 20, 2025, Jenner had to renew her passport and received one with an M (male) sex marker.
On a webpage dedicated to sex markers in passports, the U.S. Department of State explains that, because of the “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government” executive order, the government will “only issue a passport with an M or F sex marker that matches the customer’s biological sex at birth.” Jenner does not support this policy, but she has vocally supported Trump and continues to defend him.
She explained the situation on Lahren’s podcast.
Jenner emphasized that “documentation is extremely important.” She also implied that someone else might’ve pushed Trump to move forward with this policy change. “I love President Trump and I think he signed this executive order, she said. “I don’t know who underneath him was putting this thing together, that all federal documents, it has to be your biological sex at birth, OK?”
When she went to renew her passport, she really felt the impact of what she voted for. Jenner told Lahren about trying to renew her passport and then trying to change the sex marker in her new passport book after she received it. “Recently, I had my passport,” she said. “I had to get it renewed. I sent it back, comes back gender marker ‘M.’ Screws everything up.”
Jenner said she “did everything” to try to get it corrected afterwards, though she didn’t call Trump directly. Instead, she tried to submit a form used to correct any mistakes that were made. “They sent it back and didn’t change anything at all,” she revealed. “So now I’m in a position, Tomi, what do I do? This is a safety factor, OK? I can’t travel internationally anymore, OK? I can’t use my passport…so it really creates a big problem.”
However, she didn’t blame Trump for this policy change (even though he signed the executive order at the very beginning of his second term). “I don’t blame President Trump,” she said. “I love him. But, for a lot of people, this is a huge issue, you know?”
Later, she tried to ask Trump for help.
She has not heard back. Again, she doesn’t blame him for that, though. “I have not talked to the president,” Jenner explained. “I wrote [to] him. I was in Mar-a-Lago two months ago, wrote a letter explaining all of this to him, how it’s affecting me and a lot of other people… unfortunately he wasn’t there that weekend…I haven’t heard from him.”
As she continued to talk about the issue, Jenner made it clear that she understands Trump has other things to worry about at the moment. “He’s kind of busy right now,” she said. “My gender marker is not big on the issue. OK. So I get that, and I’m not blaming him whatsoever. I love the guy and I love what he’s doing, but I’m trying to figure out now, what is the next step to try to figure this out?”
She seemed confused by Trump’s decision to sign the executive order. “As we know, even to vote now, you have to have proper identification, and I don’t have that,” she said. “I don’t know what’s going to happen because I don’t think this was really thought out, what this means.”
People are struggling to empathize with Jenner’s situation.
Of course, many people are concerned about how the Trump administration is impacting the trans community. However, the empathy that they feel does not extend to Jenner, given that she has voted for Trump and used her platform to support him.
On YouTube, one person commented, “Well, you keep loving your president. He doesn’t care about YOU!” Someone else wrote, “Self imposed Ignorance has consequences too. Enjoy what you voted for. It affects all of us.” Several critics accused Jenner of not caring at all until the policies negatively affected her. “You were warned, but when it wasn’t you, you really didn’t give a s—,” a third commenter said.
People also argued that Jenner isn’t upset enough about it. “It would be great if she was far far more vocal about this bull—- and went on every talk show bashing trump about it,” one critic wrote on Reddit. “But she’s not. She’s mildly annoyed by it. Clearly not mad enough.” And as many other critics pointed out, she’s still defending and praising Trump in spite of it all.
