Sean "Diddy" Combs recently tweeted that he's been paying Sting $5,000 every day for the past 25 years, leading many to believe that the arrangement came about after Diddy sampled a song by Sting over 25 years ago. However, Diddy shortly followed up with a tweet explaining that he was actually joking.
Diddy sampled one of Sting's songs in his 1997 "I'll Be Missing You." The song was a tribute to Notorious B.I.G., who was killed in a drive-by shooting.
The song remained at the top of the Billboard 100 for 11 weeks. One of Sting's friends actually made him aware of the sampling of his song in Diddy's hit.

When a 2018 interview with Sting on The Breakfast Club radio show resurfaced with a caption saying that Diddy paid him around $2K a day after sampling his song, Diddy reposted the tweet and wrote, "Nope. 5K a day. Love to my brother @OfficialSting."
He later followed up with a tweet saying, "I want y’all to understand I was joking! It’s called being Facetious! Me and @OfficialSting have been friends for a long time! He never charged me $3K or $5K a day for Missing You. He probably makes more than $5K a day from one of the biggest songs in history. LOVE ❤️ ⚡️✨."
