At this point, there have been a ton of rumors about President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s marriage. People have frequently commented on how Melania doesn’t exactly look thrilled to be with her husband. Some conspiracy theorists are even convinced she has a body double who holds her husband’s hand and pretends to like him more (those who are skeptical of the theory have argued that the supposed body double isn’t doing a very good job).
So, when the president and first lady showed up for the Fourth of July looking especially distant and cold, people definitely noticed.

A photo of Donald and Melania seated in a special seating area during the Fourth of July celebrations in Washington D.C. has gone viral. X user Covie captioned the uncomfortable-looking photo with, “I’ve seen better chemistry between oil and water.”
Donald and Melania are seated quite far away from each other in the photo and both have somber expressions on their faces. A few people who argued in their defense said that perhaps they were just tired because it was a long day. But others felt the photo said something about their overall relationship dynamic.
Based on the photo, some critics concluded Melania absolutely did not want to be there — not because she was sleepy, but because she “hates her job,” can’t stand her husband, and is “tired of pretending.”
“She despises him more than we do,” one commenter wrote.
The conspiracy theories and affair rumors both reemerged in the comments.

Multiple people mentioned the whole body double thing because they thought Melania did not really look like herself in the photo. “That is NOT Melania,” one person commented. Another person confidently asserted, “That’s fake Melania btw.”
And someone else said that Melania looked like “her body double without the sunglasses.” While Melania can’t seem to shake the body double conspiracy theory, her husband is currently facing affair rumors due to his close relationship with assistant Natalie Harp, who was also mentioned several times in the comments.
“His girlfriend was there,” a commenter claimed. “I’m sure Melania was p—ed!” But others seemed to think it really wasn’t that deep. Instead, they believe Donald and Melania simply do not like each other. “Haha they make me so uncomfortable,” one X user wrote. “This looks like they’re waiting on the judge so their divorce mediation can begin.”
A body language expert has also weighed in.

And he noticed that Donald and Melania started acting differently once they felt like they were no longer being watched so closely. Before the president addressed the crowd during the 250th birthday celebration for the U.S., Donald and Melania seemingly wanted to appear closer. They held hands when they walked onstage. However, they did not appear to look at each other even once, body language expert Darren Stanton told Covers (per RadarOnline).
During this moment, they seemed to prioritize “professionalism” and “power” because they were in “work mode,” Stanton said.
Once they were not on stage, something shifted. As they watched the fireworks, they looked distant. They stopped performing for an audience, and “didn’t appear to be interacting or holding hands at all” after “their work and public presentation for the evening had been completed,” the expert explained.
