Donald Trump Clarifies Claim About Firefighters Carrying Him To Safety After 9/11

More than 17,000 people were in the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001, and what would forever be known as 9/11. Maybe that’s why Donald Trump was certain he could pull a fast one and claim that he was among the survivors of the attack on the pair of skyscrapers that fateful morning. During an event Trump attended ahead of the 25th anniversary of the attacks, Trump claimed that he was pulled out of the rubble by firefighters “right after” the attacks.

After a clip of the event in which Trump made these claims was shared on X, people called him out. Many claimed that Trump was outright lying about being a survivor of 9/11. Later, Trump took to Truth Social to clear up what he said. Well, sort of. He didn’t exactly backtrack on his claims, but then again, would anyone expect him to?

Donald Trump actually made claims about being rescued on 9/11.

During Trump’s speech, he said that two “big strong” firemen managed to pull him out of an unspecified situation relating to the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers. 

“I’ll never forget two firemen; we thought it was coming down on top of us, and two firemen, big, strong guys, and I’m not the smallest guy in the world, they grabbed me under the arm, said, ‘got to get out of here,'” Trump said. Again, he did not further explain the situation he was allegedly in to be pulled out of an area on 9/11, but the context clues make it seem like he was referring to being in the Twin Towers.

He continued, “They literally lifted me up. This is not easy to do. I’m big. They lifted me up, and they started running with me. I said, ‘fellas, I can run myself.’ But they were amazing. But they thought it was coming down.”

In the comments under the video on X, one person wrote, “This is shameless lying about a tragedy. Who believes him? There are more than enough fact checks proving this never happened. This is despicable and shows a complete lack of respect for the fallen Americans.”

Another commented, “Completely false. Demonstrably false. I believe in loving my neighbor, but I have real disdain for 47 and all of his minions.”

He addressed his claims in a Truth Social post.

Afterward, Trump cleared up what he actually meant in a post on Truth Social. Of course you have to wonder if he would have done that if so many people hadn’t come with receipts to prove that he was not, in fact, an actual survivor of the 9/11 attacks. But according to him, he was at the site of the attacks “shortly thereafter” and was there with a construction crew.

“Well, I don’t think I would be the first thing on anyone’s mind, but I was there, obviously not on the same day as the collapse, but shortly thereafter, with a large group of construction workers,” he wrote in his post. “I discussed it today during my Remarks on the Ellipse, in Washington, D.C., for Tunnel to Towers. Everything I said was exactly accurate.”

He also shared a video of himself at Ground Zero, encouraging construction workers as they sifted through the rubble.

At the time of the attacks, he appeared to brag about Trump Tower.

To further prove that Trump was not actually at the Twin Towers on 9/11, users commented on the X post with old news recordings showing Trump speaking to outlets about Trump Tower once being the tallest building in New York City and how the Twin Towers surpassed it. Then, he added in the news clip that Trump Tower was once again the largest building because of the Twin Towers’ collapse.

“Actually makes me sick to listen to that,” someone replied to the video of the news recording. “Holy sick ego.”
