President Donald Trump certainly got a lot of attention at the NFL game he attended on Sunday, November 9, 2025, but probably not the kind he was hoping for. People booed at Trump multiple times during the Lions-Washington Commanders game. At one point, he attempted to read an oath for members of the military to recite, but it was kind of hard to hear him over all the booing.
Reading from a binder, he said, “Please raise your right hand. I — and state your name — do solemnly swear, that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.” While he was reading, Trump had to stop several times due to the loud booing, reported the New Republic. The booing was so loud, in fact, that it could also be heard on Fox’s official broadcast.

Clips shared on social media also captured people’s reactions to the president at the football game. Though some people clearly did cheer for him, the videos shared on social media made it clear that numerous attendees booed each time Trump came into view.

Trump also spoke about playing football in high school and admitted he never scored a touchdown. After admitting this, he said, “At least you realize I never tell a lie.” Ahead of the game, he told reporters, “We’re gonna have a good game. Things are going along very well. The country’s doing well,” per ABC News.
Prior to Trump’s appearance at the game on Sunday, a president hadn’t attended an NFL game during the regular season since 1978, when Jimmy Carter attended a game. In February, Trump attended the Super Bowl, making him the first president to attend while in office.

At the time, people cheered for him, and booed Taylor Swift. He made fun of her on social media after the game. After he got booed at Sunday’s game, the post resurfaced on social media. One person responded to a clip of people booing Trump with a screenshot of Trump’s Truth Social post that read, “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”
The X user who shared the screenshot captioned it with, “Karma is a relaxing thought,” which is a Swift lyric.
