Seventeen concertgoers were hospitalized due to extreme heat during Ed Sheeran's Pittsburgh concert. EMS in the area received 37 calls for service. “The transports were for heat-related issues, some falls, one seizure, and two cardiac arrests," a press release stated.
The concert took place at Pittsburgh’s Acrisure Stadium. The two cardiac arrests involved people who were working at the show: one paramedic leaving the concert and an employee dismantling the stage.
The weather at the time was said to be in the low 80s, high 70s around the time of the concert. But humidity levels reached 92% by the end of the night.

Too much time outdoors in hot weather can cause heat stroke, which is considered the most serious heat-related illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Cardiac arrest can occur as a complication of heat stroke. Ready.gov recommends getting some shade, wearing a wide-brimmed hat to shade your face, staying hydrated by drinking fluids, and avoiding outdoor exercise to stay safe in hot weather.
