Elizabeth Debicki got candid about what it was like filming the death of Princess Diana in The Crown. In an interview for TODAY.com, the 33-year-old Australian actress shared that there was some "immense sadness" around portraying the real-life events that took place. She shared that even though everything was staged, it was hard not to get overwhelmed at times.
"When you’re in those scenes, like the particular ones you were describing of being chased and being handled and trapped in a small space, all of that is such a physical, visceral experience. It sort of is happening to you and you just have to let yourself react to it.”
“If you put any human in that situation, they would find it equally unbearable, and want to get out of it as quickly as possible," she added. Elizabeth went on to commend Khalid Abdalla, who portrayed Princess Diana's rumored boyfriend Dodi Fayed, for being an amazing scene partner.
"To have Khalid, he’s such a beautiful human and he plays Dodi with so much kindness and compassion," she shared. "So I never ever felt like I was doing it alone.”

As far as filming the death scene, Elizabeth and Khalid leaned on each other through the process. “We had to manage that. And there were days where that felt really difficult, and then there were days where we felt like we were kind of getting through it. It’s a really unique thing to film," she said. “It feels absolutely mad that it should’ve ever been happening, that that should ever happen to anybody.”
