It is not always easy to work with one’s family. In the movie business, there are interesting roadblocks and obstacles that don’t exist in other fields. For instance, one never has to worry about filming a family member in a sex scene if one works in education. Thankfully, Elizabeth Hurley did not find it awkward at all on set of her latest film Strictly Confidential, which was directed by her son Damian Hurley.
Elizabeth felt quite the opposite of awkward. She felt protected and safe. She knew that her son had her back. This role was a stretch for her, and he empowered her to take risks.
Damian’s film tells the story of a young woman named Mia who is mourning her best friend’s suicide. When Mia joins her friend’s family to mark the anniversary of her death, she quickly learns everyone has a secret and is moved to find out what really happened to her friend. The story required Elizabeth to act out some sexy scenes with actress Pear Chiravara.
Elizabeth acknowledged these “weren’t necessarily things I’d always done in movies many times before.” It was new territory for her as an actress. This didn’t worry her because her son was behind the camera.

“Having him there meant that I felt safe and looked after,” she stated on Access Hollywood. “It’s kind of liberating to work with your family.” She had a great time making the film.
Damian realizes that many people will think this is strange. “People find this really controversial,” he said. Damian grew up in show business so this is just another day at the office for him. He even shot many of his mother’s bikini photos. According to Damian, the biz has “been a fundamental part of my entire life so for us it’s just not a thing, it’s part of business.”
Elizabeth agreed with Damian. She doesn’t find it odd either. “I’m relaxed in front of him,” she explained. “He looks after me … it’s relaxing knowing someone is behind the camera who looks out for you.”
The Access Hollywood interview was not the only place Damian raved about working with his mom. He took to Instagram in December 2022 to praise her as well. “I want to worship @ElizabethHurley1 who, during the making of my first ever short film back in 2010 (when I was 8) promised me she’d be in my first feature; true to her word, the minute this film was greenlit, Mama dropped everything and raced out to the beautiful Caribbean to help,” his post began.
“Working together was a dream,” he went on to say. “This has genuinely been the most incredible experience, both professionally and personally. I’ve made lifelong friends and learnt many valuable lessons. I'm so so proud of this film.”
Damian is Elizabeth’s only child. She shared him with ex-partner Steve Bing. Steve, a Hollywood financier died by suicide in 2020 when he was 55 years old.
Elizabeth hopes people remember all the good Steve did during his lifetime. "He was a good man. He gave to so many good causes," she told Extra in 2020. "He was a philanthropist at heart and when we were together, which was a very long time ago, more than 18 years ago, I loved him very much. So I really hope people will retain fond memories of him." She is so thankful to Steve for giving her Damian.
