What to Know
Maye Musk has been known to defend her controversial son, Elon Musk, on social media. But now, people are starting to think he was the one managing the account and pretending to be her, which would be pretty embarrassing. Speculation about Maye’s X account started after Elon posted, “My grandmother was a housekeeper in England.”
Maye responded to her son’s post, sharing some more details, but part of what she said did not make any sense.
Her post, which has since been deleted, read, “Your mom…”
Elon’s mom caught posting from the perspective of Elon’s dad. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to assume Elon is posting on Twitter as both his parents & was on the wrong alt. The cringe deepens daily with this one. pic.twitter.com/ZQrLBT40uy

The post from Maye’s account (which some people now believe is actually managed by Elon instead) read, “Your mom told me she was cleaning toilets in a Liverpool boarding house as a child. When I met her in 1966, she was sewing linings for a furrier in a small windowless room behind the store.”
People were quick to point out the very obvious problem with Maye’s response: “Aren’t you his mom?” The suspicious post then sparked the theory that Elon has been posting from Maye’s account, which might seem far-fetched, except he’s actually done something similar (and arguably worse) before. At one point, Elon started a fake account for his own child. He did not use the account to simply post about his toddler—he was actually pretending to be him, per Futurism.
Looking back at some of Maye’s old posts, people became more convinced that Elon had written them.

On May 3, Maye responded to a Tesla post with, “Cool 🥰🥰🥰” Before the whole “your mom” thing, this probably would’ve seemed like a fairly ordinary proud mom moment. But now, some people on social media are convinced that Elon has been using Maye’s account to compliment himself.
“I already thought Elon’s mom constantly defending him on twitter was embarrassing,” one person wrote on X. “I didn’t even consider that Elon was the one tweeting as his own mom and defending himself, which is maybe the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen.”
Someone else wrote, “The world’s richest man pretending to be his mom who loves him is the funniest and saddest thing I’ve ever seen.”
If he really is posting from his mom’s account (which, again, is not confirmed), you would think he would’ve been a bit more careful about it. “The richest dude in the world does his own propaganda…and he’s not very good at it,” a critic commented. And, of course, the mistake seems even more humiliating when you consider the fact that Elon owns X and should, presumably, know how to use it. “how does he manage to f— up this badly on a site HE OWNS?” someone else questioned.
To be fair, it could’ve been a typo.

Sure, the “your mom” thing doesn’t make sense coming from Elon’s mom. This led some people to assume that Maye’s post was actually meant to come from Elon’s dad. However, that wouldn’t make much sense either, given that Elon’s original post was about his grandmother being a housekeeper in England.
Some people did jump to Elon’s defense for this reason. They speculated that Maye really did write the response, and probably meant to write something like “your dad’s mom.” Even so, a decent number of people remain convinced that Elon is using his mom’s account to have full conversations with himself (publicly). Yikes.
