Recently released emails shed more light on President Donald Trump’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. After Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released three Epstein emails that mentioned Trump earlier this week, Republicans released a batch of 20,000 documents and accused Democrats of “cherry-pick(ing)” to “generate clickbait.”
Though the newly released documents were not sent by or to Trump, Epstein mentioned the president in several exchanges. The messages have raised questions about how much Trump knew about Epstein’s crimes. Beyond that, many of them are not exactly flattering.
In the emails released by Democrats, Epstein claimed that Trump “spent hours” at his house with a victim and that he “knew about the girls.” Then, in emails released by Republicans, Epstein referred to Trump as “dirty” and “borderline insane.”
In an email from March 2018, Epstein described Trump as “evil beyond belief,” per The Independent. “I told everyone from day one. evil beyond belief. mad, and most thought i was speaking metaphorically,” he wrote. Per CNN, he added, “he feels alone. and is nuts !!!”
In another email, dated August 2018, Epstein discussed Trump’s hush money payment to Stormy Daniels. “you see , i know how dirty donald is,” he wrote at the time. A few months later, in December 2018, Epstein described Trump as “borderline insane.”
Trump and Epstein used to be friends, but later had a falling out. The emails make this pretty clear. Trump came up in Epstein’s email conversations multiple times during Trump’s first presidency. At one point, a reporter wrote that Trump was “looking/sounding increasingly unhinged.” In response, Epstein wrote, “No questions donalds statement is goofy. . early dementia?” He also called the president “f—— crazy.”
Trump’s dismissive attitude toward the Epstein case has only made many people more suspicious. After Democrats released the first three emails on November 12, Trump took to Truth Social to call the whole thing a “hoax.”
“The Democrats are trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again because they’ll do anything at all to deflect on how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown, and so many other subjects,” he wrote. “Only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap.” In a follow-up post, he added, “In other words, the Democrats are using the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax to try and deflect from their massive failures, in particular, their most recent one — THE SHUTDOWN!”
