Rumors That Erika Kirk Might Be Changing Her Last Name Take Off

There’s obviously been a lot of skepticism about Erika Kirk circulating online for months now. Some critics of the Turning Point CEO have questioned whether her grief is genuine and have accused her of grifting in the aftermath of her late husband Charlie Kirk’s death.

Her appearances at a myriad of events have inspired many memes and comedy sketches. And so, when reports that she had filed to change her name began circulating on social media, a decent number of people were quick to believe it.

The claim took off after an account called Hoops Crave posted about it on June 15.

In an X post, the account wrote, “Erika Kirk has filed to legally remove ‘Kirk’ from her last name.” Hoops Crave describes itself as a Pop Crave parody account. But the report about Erika got a ton of attention on social media, and lots of people appeared to believe it.

“She never gave a s— about him or his legacy,” one person wrote in response. “she’s not carrying the flame,” someone else commented.

Several commenters mocked the fact that some people have explained Erika’s behavior by saying, “People grieve differently.” To them, this really seemed like something more than merely grieving differently.

But there’s no evidence that Erika is changing her name.

The rumor really took off in spite of the lack of evidence supporting it. As of June 18, the post about Erika had garnered 22.8 million views and more than 3000 comments. But as the account mentions in its bio, it’s a parody account. This really angered some of the people who realized the post was totally fake.

Critics accused people of believing blatant misinformation and failing to do any fact-checking just because they were eager to “mock the widow of a murder victim.”

Aside from the fact that the report was posted by a parody account, Erika is still going by Erika Kirk on social media, and no major outlets have reported that she filed to legally change her name.

This is one of many unfounded rumors about Erika that have really taken off.

Recently, another account alleged that Erika already had a new boyfriend, not even a year after her husband’s death. At the end of May, an account called Project Constitution claimed that Erika was “spotted getting handsy” with Blake Wynn, who is casino mogul Steve Wynn’s nephew. The account cited a “trusted eyewitness.”

Though the rumor was completely unfounded, it got enough attention that both Erika and Blake felt compelled to address it.

“Every single word here is a lie,” Erika wrote in response to the post. “Charlie’s love will last me a lifetime. The Lord is the only one who can ever fill that most painful void. On May 14th I was home in Arizona celebrating my son’s 2nd birthday. Blake (who is about to be engaged to his longtime gf) was a dear friend of my husband’s and I am grateful for his continued support, just like hundreds of others.”

She also accused the person who started the rumor of having a “deranged obsession” with her and urged them to “brush off the Dorito dust and go touch grass.”
