Charlie Kirk was not a politician, but before his 2025 death after he was shot at a college in Utah, he was an avid political activist, along with his wife, Erika Kirk. It was during one of his tours promoting Turning Point USA’s message that he was fatally shot. So it was only natural, in some ways, for his name and legacy to be brought up at the 2026 mid-term Republican National Convention in Dallas, Texas.
One person posted about it on X and targeted his wife, Erika. According to the user, Erika often displays so many personalities through her facial expressions and actions that it is hard to tell which persona she is putting out there. Her potentially unsure expressions in public could suggest a widow still in mourning and a bit insecure about her every move. Or, the explanation could be what some of her critics claim, which is that Erika isn’t who she says she is.
Erika Kirk’s RNC appearance got some blowback for the Turning Point USA CEO.
It’s so funny to watch her perform 8 different emotions because she doesn’t know which one an actual grieving widow would feel https://t.co/KgeWHRyGPZ

Most of the time, when Erika goes out in public, she risks having every move scrutinized. We don’t make the rules, but apparently, social media does, because it appears to be the rule rather than the exception that Erika’s mannerisms, facial expressions, and comments are dissected as much as possible.
And her appearance at the RNC, during which Trump mentioned Charlie and his impact on MAGA and the far-right agenda, is no different. In the clip on X, Erika stands up and smiles when Trump asks the crowd where she is. She then, in quick succession, looks more serious and glances down, smiles and nods, and looks much more serious and even angry.
The user who posted the video wrote, “It’s so funny to watch her perform 8 different emotions because she doesn’t know which one an actual grieving widow would feel.”
To be fair, it’s unclear what Erika is supposed to do while she hears the applause for her husband and the chants of his name. Does she smile the entire time? Cry? And what does she do with her hands? OK, that last bit is more so the anxious person in all of us, but you get the idea. For Erika, it seems, getting the facial expression right is a challenge.
Some of Erika Kirk’s critics question how authentic she is.
Those who support Erika and who supported Charlie during his life left comments condemning the user on X for the post. But, on another X post, the reactions were more mixed. Some people simply criticized Trump for making comments verging on “ah, what are you gonna do,” while others questioned how authentic Erika is.
“Whew! She can turn on her performative character in 0.2 seconds,” one person commented. “I’ve never seen anyone that quick.”
Others commented to joke that Erika would likely be dabbing her eyes for “fake tears.” But there has been nothing out there to prove that Erika has been fake in grieving her husband.
Donald Trump spoke about Charlie Kirk at the RNC.
OMG 🤣 President Trump Just Made the Whole RNC Pledge to Vote Or 'You're Going to Hell"

"I pledge to the greatest President in the history of the United States, who loves us so much that I will get out and vote so help me God"

During Trump’s speech at the RNC< he mentioned Charlie and how the Turning Point CEO’s life was taken from him in such a sudden and tragic way. He also noted what a “beautiful family” Erika and Charlie have. And this is all while Erika was standing for the applause from everyone else in attendance.
“So exactly one year ago tomorrow, a far-left extremist assassinated my great friend and conservative voice Charlie Kirk because Charlie Kirk spoke the truth,” Trump said at the mid-term RNC. “What shocked millions was not only that Charlie was murdered, as bad as it was, but also how many people made an excuse for it and cheered for it. They were cheering — some people. Sick people.”
Other political leaders have shared similar sentiments about Charlie, including JD Vance, who has spoken out in favor of both Charlie and Erika at different times.
