In recent weeks, Nicki Minaj has used social media to defend the Trump administration, disappointing some of her fans. In addition to sharing posts in support of President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and Fox News host Jesse Watters, Nicki has spent a decent amount of time criticizing California governor Gavin Newsom. After a series of transphobic posts directed at Gavin, his press office has finally responded, and people can’t get over how petty the response was.
Nicki criticized Gavin after he spoke up about trans rights.
On Friday, December 12, she reacted to a short clip from Gavin’s December 11 appearance on The Ezra Klein Show. In the clip, Gavin can be heard saying, “I want to see trans kids…I have a trans godson. There’s no governor that’s signed more pro-trans legislation than I have.”
Like Elon Musk, Nicki made it very clear that she thinks supporting trans athletes is a bad thing. “Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids. Haha,” Nicki wrote on X. “Not even a trans ADULT would run on that. Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids. Not Gav The Gav Nots GavOUT Send in the next guy, I’m bored.”
Her criticism didn’t end there.
In another post, she wrote, “Gavin is the cute boy who got everything handed to him b/c of how cute & sexy & hot & smoking he was. Oohhh look @‘m. Sitting there in that suit with the sneakers on. He thinks he’s Tom Cruise only difference is, his next mission IS impossible. He should get another leading role.” Then, that same day, she added, “Oh Gavvy pooh, it only gets worse from here for you, buddy. It’s the end of the road for you, my love. Get on the nearest jet ski & let that beautiful hair blow in the wind. It will make you happier than this race that you will not win. Enjoy life. Peace.”

The following day, Gavin’s press office shared a reminder about California’s Megan’s Law website. Although it’s subtle, people saw it as a response to Nicki’s rants, given that her husband, Kenneth Petty, is a registered sex offender.
“Know your neighborhood and protect your community!” the post from Gavin’s press office read. “California’s Megan’s Law website makes it easy to access publicly available information about registered sex offenders in your area.”
Even Nicki seemed to sense that the post was about her, as she shared a post that criticized Gavin’s team for sharing it.
People reacted to the feud on social media.
On Reddit, many agreed that Gavin’s press office was clearly sharing the resource because of Nicki’s husband. “Oh my god how embarrassing for her 😭” one person wrote in response to the post from Gavin’s team. Another person said, “Not a fan of Gavin newsom, but I fear his team cooked here. She should have just minded her own business.” Others loved how “petty” the post seemed.
On X, one critic wrote, “Nikki Minaj is going after Gavin Newsom, and that’s a bold move for a woman whose husband can not go near playgrounds, schools, and daycares.”

Gavin also shared a video via his personal account.
And people found it equally petty (in a good way). Gavin’s post did not mention Nicki specifically. Instead, it included images of Trump with Jeffrey Epstein, along with some information about the Megan’s Law website. But the song that accompanied the clip suggested that it was also directed at Nicki. The clip was set to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hiss,” which is widely understood to be a Nicki Minaj diss track and also includes a reference to Megan’s Law.

Many people found the apparent clap back hilarious, with one person writing, “Whoever’s running your socials keep them on payroll and give them a nice Christmas bonus. They’ve earned it.”
Unsurprisingly, Nicki did not appreciate it and continued to criticize Gavin on X. In one post, she used the nickname that Trump gave the governor, referring to him as “new scum.” In another post, she wrote, “Wanting to see more TRANSKIDS NEWSOME GRUESOME Haha Fire victims? Nah Hollywood? Nah Swatting calls to homes with innocent children? Nah GAVIN WANTS ONE THING. TRANSKIDS NEWSOME.”
