If there is a dig to be taken, then you can trust Donald Trump to accept the challenge and take it, especially when it concerns someone who is against everything he stands for. In this instance, it’s California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Trump has repeatedly made comments about Newsom’s dyslexia diagnosis, which he has referred to as Newsom’s “learning disability.”
Now, Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, has responded to Trump’s comments. At a meeting in the Oval Office, clips of which were shared on social media, Trump told reporters that he thinks “a president should not have learning disabilities,” while referencing Newsom. He also said that “everything about him is dumb.” You know, just for good measure.

During Trump’s Oval office meeting where he felt compelled to bring up Newsom’s dyslexia diagnosis, which the California governor has been open about over the years, Trump continuously spoke negatively about the potential 2028 presidential candidate. For Trump, apparently, it’s not OK to have a president in office who is dyslexic.
“Honestly, I’m all for people with learning disabilities, but not for my president,” he said. “I don’t want, I think a president should not have learning disabilities, OK? And I know it’s highly controversial to say such a horrible thing.” He also said, The President of the United States, Gavin Newscum, admitted that he has learning disabilities, dyslexia. Everything about him is dumb.” And just in case you aren’t keeping track, ‘Newscum’ is apparently Trump’s nickname for Newsom.
Gavin Newsom’s wife came out swinging for him.
After Trump made those comments, Newsom’s wife, Jennifer, shared a video response to Trump on Instagram that was posted on Reddit. In her video, Jennifer says that she “had to take a beat” after she watched and heard Trump speak negatively about Newsom and his dyslexia.
“Suggesting that someone with dyslexia or any learning difference for that matter is somehow less capable of leading or achieving is extremely ignorant and offensive,” Jennifer says. “Dyslexia is not a measure of intelligence, In fact, quite the contrary. And learning differences does not determine someone’s potential. On the contrary, some of the most successful leaders in business and the world have dyslexia.”
Her entire video is giving ‘wife who tells her husband to hold her earrings so she can lay into the bully who is messing with him.’ And on the Reddit thread, even those who aren’t wild about Newsome have to hand it to Jennifer for giving Trump a few digital punches.
One neutral person commented, “I hate Trump and am not a fan of Newsom. But really the low blows going after someone’s dyslexia? F—ing really? This is your strong smart leader? Pathetic.”
“She is completely correct,” someone else added. “Everything she said is something that anyone that learns differently needs to hear. We should build people up. Not have someone in the most powerful position in our nation tearing them down.”
“I don’t like Newsom and really hope he doesn’t get pushed as the nominee!” Another person commented on the thread. “That being said, he is definitely smarter than Trump!”
But also, people are wondering why she somehow looks like she could be related to her husband.
In the same Reddit thread, someone commented to share that they suddenly see a weird physical resemblance between Newsom and his wife, and in the video, she does look like she could be Newsom’s sister rather than wife. To that, someone else commented, “Most married people look like siblings. Seriously.”
But maybe part of the resemblance is also Newsom’s wife speaking in a measured tone like a politician herself as she defends her husband and other individuals with learning differences. Newsom might not have asked her to stick up for him on social media, but plenty of people are applauding her for doing so.
