Former US President Donald Trump has been indicted on criminal charges in the hush money case against Stormy Daniels. This is the first time a former or sitting US president has been charged in a criminal case.
Trump allegedly made payments to the adult entertainment star while he was running for president in 2016.
To vote to indict is to vote to accuse a person of a major crime. It's currently not known what Trump could be charged with, or what specific major crime he will be accused of. Trump reportedly ordered his personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to pay Daniels $130,000.
Trump's company then labeled the reimbursement it paid Cohen as a legal expense. The company did not include the expense as part of its reports of campaign expenses.
Cohen previously pleaded guilty to charges of campaign finance violations and tax fraud in 2018. He also insisted that Trump told him to pay Daniels and that Trump paid him back monthly.

The payment was included in a nondisclosure agreement that Daniels and Trump signed, as the former planned to disclose her relationship with Trump to the public.
The Hill reports that legal experts believe Trump will likely be charged with a misdemeanor offense of falsifying business records.
