Internet Turns On Guy Fieri After UFC Appearance Sparks Backlash

Many people on social media no longer want to support Guy Fieri after videos and photos from a recent UFC appearance showed him interacting with the Tate brothers. On Saturday, April 11, people spotted Fieri shaking hands and bumping shoulders with Andrew Tate. Tate and his brother have been accused of human trafficking and rape, and have faced criminal investigations in several countries. Tate is also a self-proclaimed misogynist.

So, of course, social media users were pretty horrified when they saw Fieri’s casual, friendly interaction with the Tate brothers. The backlash was so widespread that Fieri publicly addressed it on social media.

After seeing the clips and photos, fans said they would stop watching the Food Network.

“Well, I’m done with him,” one person wrote on X. Many others called the interaction absolutely “disgusting” and said they can no longer respect Fieri. “I can’t watch the Food Network anymore. 🤮” someone else commented. Several mentioned how Fieri has long been accused of supporting President Donald Trump, so they didn’t necessarily find these photos and clips all that surprising, sadly. “The food guy that pretends to be a good guy seems to be awfully chummy with sex offenders,” another person noted.

However, regardless of what Fieri’s personal beliefs are, some people still couldn’t believe that he would publicly interact with people as controversial as the Tate brothers. “JFC he just ended his career socializing with rapist, abusers, and sex traffickers,” a commenter wrote.

A few people tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe, some speculated, he didn’t actually know who Tate was and was just being friendly without realizing that he has literally been accused of multiple crimes against girls and women. “I might be giving him too much benefit of the doubt but if I was a betting person, I don’t think he knows who tf Andrew Tate is,” one person wrote on Reddit. Someone else questioned, “Wait, I thought we had all collectively decided that Guy Fieri is actually a good guy. Do we have to undo the rehabilitation of Guy Fieri’s image now??”

Others did not seem convinced that Fieri doesn’t know who the Tate brothers are. “i refuse to believe he has no clue who andrew tate is, especially when he was photographed being buddy buddy with trump…” a Redditor commented. “it really seems like he’s MAGA but too afraid to alienate his audience by outright saying it.”

For some, the fact that Fieri seems like “a good guy” in some ways was not enough to make up for the fact that he seemed friendly with the Tate brothers. “Well, this sucks,” someone else said. “Guy is pretty vocal about a lot of issues like gay marriage, supporting first responders/veterans and getting low-income families financial support for culinary education. The fact that he’s chummy with a known rapist and sex trafficker is vomit-inducing.”

Fieri addressed the controversy on social media.

After seeing all of the backlash online, Fieri took to social media to claim that he doesn’t actually know the Tate brothers. “I’m seeing all of your comments about the photo from Saturday’s UFC event and all I can say is that I’m devastated,” he wrote on X. “I was there to see the fights and when I was walking through the venue, the Tate brothers stood up and said hello and that’s when the exchanged happened.  I did not know them or about them before that moment.”

Fieri added, “I’ll never pretend to be a perfect person but let me be crystal clear,  I do not know the Tate brothers nor do I support them in any way.”

But people on social media did not seem all that forgiving. Critics called Fieri’s apology “weak” and urged him to “do better.” Some felt that the photos and clips suggested that he did know them. “Yeah. This is how we all react to somebody we don’t know,” one person wrote sarcastically.

Many others shared photos of Fieri interacting with Trump. “How about this dude?” one critic asked, referring to Trump. “Did he sneak up on you too?”
