Sometimes one finds themselves in the right place at the right time. The planets align for you to help a fellow human in need. One heroic Amazon driver chose to do just that.
On August 18, 2023, Cedric Figures was delivering a package for Amazon on Currier Drive in Portage, Michigan, when he came across a burning home. He heard cries for help and spotted flames coming from the kitchen window. He did not hesitate to grab a fire extinguisher he found outside and run into the building.
He used the extinguisher to fight back the flames and got the man out. Engine 1211 responded and arrived on scene just as the men were leaving the home. The homeowner’s fire alarm alerted the fire department of the blaze. It is not known at this time if the older man was injured in the blaze.
Portage’s Department of Public Safety calls Cedric’s actions “heroic and selfless.” It is grateful for his kindness. “You make the community a better place,” it stated.

Cedric believes he did what anyone in his shoes would have. "Put good energy out and you'll receive the same — but don't do it for something in return,” he mused. “Just do it because you know it's right and good will come back to you.”
