The Scandinavian Sleep Method Is Taking Over Social Media And Just Might Save Marriages

Do you find yourself fighting with your partner at night over who's hogging the covers? Or over one of you being too hot while the other one is too cold? Or maybe you both prefer different types of bed sheets and comforters. It can be frustrating when the sleep needs of you and your partner are completely different, but there might just be a hack that can work for you. Influencer Erica Stolman Dowdy swears by the Scandinavian sleep method, which she believes has the potential to actually save marriages.

The sleep method — which is popular in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden — uses two twin blankets instead of one shared blanket for a couple. In doing so, it's believed that both parties are able to get better sleep.

In a video posted to her TikTok account that gained over 3.3 million views, Erica shows the process of making a bed the Scandinavian way.

"The Scandinavian sleep method is an absolute game changer. 10/10 recommend," she captioned the post, adding the hashtags #scandinaviansleepmethod, #danishdesign, and #danishinterior.

"My husband and I love Copenhagen," she begins. "We've been a bunch of times and every time we go I say when I get home I'm going to give our house a Copenhagen-inspired makeover and then life gets busy and I don't do it."

She went on to explain that this time, she's actually implementing the makeover, starting in their bedroom. She shares that homes in Copenhagen often have fun colors, and proceeds to strip the white sheets off bed and trade them in for pink linen ones.

Erica discards the top sheet, which she says is "absolutely useless." She then introduces the Scandinavian sleep method. "In Copenhagen, not once have I slept with 1 duvet, it is always 2 twins and we sleep so good, like no one's fighting over blankets, nobody's too hot or too cold, it's absolutely amazing."

"This is just absolutely the comfiest way to sleep," she concluded as she added in yellow duvet covers. "I 10 out of 10 recommend it. It could save marriages."

People flooded the comments to weigh in on the method.

"Once you sleep with two comforters…you will NEVER go back to only one!!!" someone commented.

"My husband is from Germany and we’ve always done this, my favorite way to make the bed is to fold each twin and turn it sideways fits perfect," another user chimed in.

But others were more concerned about the top sheet.

"You lost me at no top sheet- just thinking about washing the comforters weekly is exhausting," one person wrote.

Another user added: "I use a top sheet because I wash my sheets every week and my duvet cover less often because we don’t directly touch it, if that makes sense ."
