JD Vance’s Awkward Phone Call With Donald Trump Sparks Hilarious Theories About What He Was Doing

It seems like Donald Trump is having a real issue with phone calls lately, and one of those instances is when JD Vance called him from a rally in Hungary while he spoke to thousands of people. In a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter), Vance calls Trump, but Trump seems a little confused at first. I mean, the guy is pushing 80, and most boomers have a generally terrible time with technology in general.

But for this situation, people have come up with some of the best theories about why Trump was caught off guard at the beginning of the phone call. One reason could be the ongoing theory that he simply hates his vice president. But there are other possible reasons that people have some up with, because where’s the fun in not doing that?

Donald Trump didn’t seem to know what was going on at first.

Vance flew to Hungary in a show of support for Prime Minister Viktor Orban for re-election in a fifth term. Although Trump wasn’t there, he was there in spirit, because in the clip on X, Vance calls him from a podium in front of a crowd of thousands of alleged supporters of Trump’s. But it was clearly not a pre-arranged call and it’s a bit awkward at first.

When Trump answers, he sounds distracted and tells Vance to hold on for a minute. But he hears the cheers and Vance quickly lets him know that his voice is being heard by thousands of people in Hungary who have shown support for him. Trump switches gears and turns on the, um, charm, I guess? Or, whatever passes for charm when it comes to Trump and his supporters.

“I think they love you even more than they love Viktor Orban,” Vance tells Trump on the phone. Is that code for “please be nice to me, they’re all listening”? It kind of sounds like it, especially since Vance apparently had to gas him up before Trump hung up on him.

Since Trump sounds clearly distracted at the start of the seemingly unexpected call with Vance, people responded to the X post to share what they think the president was doing when he was interrupted by the call from his VP. No one was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, either.

“He was having old people’s diarrhea, diaper could not contain it,” someone wrote on X. “Dragged the swollen legs as fast as his failing heart permitted to the toilet, then that call came in. Putin will be very unhappy.”

Someone else wrote, “Trump sounded like he was mid-wipe, mid-bite of a burger, or mid-whatever.”

Another person poked fun at Trump’s orange complexion that sometimes varies in shade, but is usually pretty consistent. They wrote, “I’m just…uh….putting on my makeup.”

“Was he tugging the mushroom or having his diaper hanged?” Another commenter asked. It was rhetorical, obviously, but let’s hope no one actually responds to that comment on X.

Some think Trump actually hates Vance.

Those who believe Trump can’t stand his VP might use this as video evidence of that. Trump sounds preoccupied with Vance, but he becomes much more alert when he hears the crowd. Also, according to some, Trump is just annoyed with Vance more often than not. He once called Vance “incompetent” and, to be fair, Vance once had some anti-Trump words for the president before they began working together.

Is this exchange on the phone call proof of Trump being perpetually annoyed with Vance? He seemed to believe it was a private call at first, and even though Trump answers the call from Vance, he immediately tries to put him on hold. But who knows? Maybe it was because Trump was in the middle of a much-needed bathroom break.
