There’s enough AI-generated content on social media these days, that most users should do their due diligence when it comes to seeing a video where a politician or public figure says something totally out of pocket. But when JD Vance appeared in a video posted on TikTok where he seems to brag about his privilege as a high-earning vice president in a podcast episode, there was nothing AI-generated to back it up.
In the clip from the podcast The Way I Heard It, Vance talked about how his life was “totally transformed” after he became vice president. I don’t think I even have to say it, but there are people in the United States who are struggling financially, and in some cases, more so than ever. He really needs a Kourtney Kardashian-Barker in his life to remind him, “There’s people that are dying.”

During the podcast episode, Vance talks about his 2026 book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. He also talks about living in a “bubble” and he admits to being surrounded by people who would rather gas him up than give him honest feedback. Still, self-awareness or not, it’s not easy for some Americans to hear Vance openly discuss everything he has.
“Like, my life is, dude, totally transformed,” Vance says in the TikTok clip from the podcast episode. He adds, “My life is so weird. I fly around on a 757. No more TSA lines for me and the kids. It’s so weird.”
During the podcast episode, Vance also talks about driving through Florida with Elon Musk and having Donald Trump’s motorcade clear traffic as they drove through the streets. Vance says that Musk admitted he could never do that despite having so much money. Call it a silly anecdote, or call it Vance humble bragging about his rich friends and business associates. Either way, it doesn’t sound great for many.
“This is so disgustingly out of touch,” one TikTok user commented on the video.
Another added, “He genuinely thinks he’s cool.”
“These politicians really think they’re celebrities,” someone also commented.
He said he has an “army of people” who cook for him.
While some Americans have a hard time affording food or getting access to clean water even, Vance doesn’t have to worry about any of that. Not that he ever did, but now, as the vice president, he has people who cook for him and take care of everything in that regard for his family. And that’s on top of earning six figures for his role in the White House.
“I don’t go to the grocery store anymore,” Vance says in the TikTok clip. “People go to the grocery store for me. Most of my meals, like, when I cook a meal, it’s like, I love to cook, actually, big baker. I like to cook for my kids [on] a special occasion. But I don’t have to cook anymore because I’ve got an army of people who are willing to cook me my food.”
People called him out for being heavily out of touch.
Those who already can’t stand Vance or the Trump Administration were ready to let him have it in the comments under the TikTok. Sure, Vance may never actually see the comments. However, it was hard for people not to point out the inappropriate nature of Vance’s comments about his charmed life, given what so many are dealing with openly.
“I don’t go to the grocery store anymore either,” a user commented. “I can’t afford it!”
To the same tune, a TikTok user also wrote, “I still go to the grocery store, but unfortunately, I can’t afford anything there.”
“Must be nice JD,” another wrote. “Anyway I gotta get back to work.”
