All these years down the line, cannibal serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer is still making headlines.
You may have caught the twisted first season of Netflix’s American true crime drama series starring Evan Peters, Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. This video posted by Inside Edition showcases none other than Dr. Phil giving insight into the mind of the famed serial killer.
Dr. Phil’s three-part special on the serial killer features never-before-seen footage of Dahmer’s father, Lionel.
“First, I couldn’t fathom how he turned out to be this far down the continuum. We’re all on a continuum. We all do bad things. We all sin. He was at the extreme of his continuum,” Lionel states in a clip from the show.
Dr. Phil notes how Dahmer was obsessed with taxidermy and dissecting dead animals and he details to Inside Edition that it appears that Lionel knew his son was different due to these strange obsessions and he also recognized that it wasn’t “normal” behavior.
Dr. Phil divulges to the news outlet that Lionel admits to missing “warning signs” when it came to identifying and potentially stopping his son from becoming a serial killer. For instance, the Netflix series depicts that it was none other than Lionel himself who first introduced his son to taxidermy.
Also included in the Dr. Phil special is an interview with the sister of one of Dahmer’s victims, who famously unloaded on the serial killer at his court sentencing in 1992.
