According to actress Jane Fonda, Jennifer Lopez once put her all into her role in the 2005 Monster-in-Law rom-com when the actress accidentally cut her during the movie's iconic slap scene. Apparently, Jennifer took Viola Field's advice to never "go and slap somebody and then apologize."
Jane played Viola in the movie, who was the mother of Charlotte "Charlie" Cantilini's (J.Lo's character) fiancé. Jane made an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show and ended up reflecting on the incident.
"Well, OK, the thing that comes to mind right away is, we have a slapping scene. I slap her, she slaps me, I slap her," Jane shared. "Well, Jennifer — as per Jennifer — she had this enormous diamond ring. And so, when she slapped me one of the times, it cut open across my eye, my eyebrow."
"You know, she's never apologized," she added. But J.Lo remembers things a little differently. In 2019, she posted a video to her YouTube channel where she broke down the scene.

"The scene took on a life of its own," she said. "I just remember afterward Jane had a blood blister right at the top of her eye. My nail, like, went up into her eye. I was like … so sorry! She didn't care. She's such a gangster [expletive]. I just love her."
