‘Fixer Upper’ Star Joanna Gaines Has A Headbanging Good Time At Pearl Jam Concert

You never really outgrow the music that got you through your angsty youth. It becomes a part of your identity and DNA in a powerful way. One special song can bring a flood of memories and emotions. Chip Gaines appears to know this so he planned a special surprise date night for his wife Joanna.

On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Chip and Joanna attended the Pearl Jam concert at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Joanna’s younger sister Mikey McCall and her husband David McCall joined in, making it a double date. Irish rock band Inhaler opened the show.

Joanna was thrilled with Chip’s thoughtfulness. “@chipgaines you are still the very best at surprises… loved getting to watch one of my all-time favorite bands. @pearljam was everything 17 year-old Jo could have imagined. What a fun night!✨” she gushed on Instagram. She shared photos and videos from the evening.

The following day, Joanna was still reveling in her joy. She posted a video of her headbanging along with the music and the impact that had on her hair. Let’s just say, she embraced the phrase big hair, don’t care.

“Still channeling my inner alternative, angsty teen from the @pearljam concert last night. Gonna just embrace this look for a while ✌ ," Joanna mused. She looks great with big hair.

Joanna and Chip first met in 2001 in the waiting area of Joanna's dad's auto shop. It was not love at first sight. Joanna was actually more into Chip's roommate but agreed to go on a date with Chip. The first date did not seal the deal for Chip either, but months later a second date made her change her mind and the rest is history.

Chip and Joanna were married in 2003 at the historic Earle-Harrison House in Waco, Texas. They would go on to have five children and build their Magnolia empire.

The most important lesson Joanna and Chip want their children to learn is kindness. "Every day we try to teach our own kids to be kind to themselves, to each other, to neighbors and especially to those who look like they are alone," Joanna stated.
