On September 5, 2023, Joe Jonas filed for divorce from Sophie Turner. This news came on the heels of speculation and rumors circulating over the Labor Day weekend that Joe had retained a divorce attorney. In his filing, Joe called the marriage "irretrievably broken" and asked for “shared parental responsibility" of their two children.
The next day, Sophie and Joe took to Instagram to address their divorce. The couple posted a statement calling it a mutual decision and asking for respect and privacy during this difficult time.
"After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children," they stated.
Joe and Sophie first met when Joe slid into her DMs in 2016. Their mutual friends had wanted to set them up but it never worked out, so Joe made a move. Eventually, he invited her to a bar when he was touring the UK. The pair hit it off instantly.
