On Sunday, August 13, 2023, after four years of dating Property Brothers host Jonathan Scott proposed to girlfriend New Girl actress Zooey Deschanel. This romantic occasion occurred on a family trip to Scotland. Zooey’s children Elsie, 8, and Charlie, 6, helped their soon-to-be stepdad Jonathan pop the question. Zooey said yes.
The couple took to Instagram to share the good news far and wide. They shared a photo of themselves against what looks like a fairy tale stone castle with Zooey showing off her beautiful ring with pink and purple stones in a floral pattern. They captioned the photo simply “Forever starts now.”
Jonathan wanted to propose in Scotland to honor his heritage. His father immigrated from Scotland to Canada when he was a teenager. Jonathan and his twin brother Drew also honored their Scottish roots at Drew’s wedding by choosing to don traditional kilts.
Many famous friends took to the comments to congratulate the happy couple.
“This makes me so happy,” wrote Drew Scott.

Jonathan and Zooey have James Corden to thank for their relationship. They first met four years ago when filming the popular segment of The Late Late Show With James Corden, "Carpool Karaoke." Jonathan, Drew, Zooey, and her sister Emily Deschanel all sang their hearts out and sparks flew between Zooey and Jonathan.
This led to another off-camera karaoke outing for the quartet. Jonathan talked about meeting Zooey on Drew and his wife Linda Phan's podcast At Home. He admitted to "flirting so hard" which caused the show's producer to have to cut a bunch of it out. "I thought I was playing it cool," he recalled.
Jonathan and Zooey’s first public appearance as a couple was a taping of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars in September 2019. They even shared a public kiss. The following month, they shared their first Instagram couple photo of them at Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights with Drew and Linda.
In June 2020, the couple purchased their 1938 five-bedroom dream home. They took two years to carefully renovate it. Zooey knew it was the one the second she first saw it. "As soon as we pulled into the driveway, we knew this house was special,” she recalled. “This is a house that suits our tastes and needs, aesthetically and functionally."
Zooey shares her two children with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik whom she separated from in 2019. She was also previously married to Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard. Jonathan loves being a bonus dad. He was previously married to Kelsy Ully but divorced in 2010.
