Kai Trump Says Spending 30 Minutes With Donald Trump Would Change People’s Minds

Kai Trump recently reflected on her experience at her grandfather’s controversial Fourth of July celebration, and her comments are definitely… interesting. In the past, Kai, 19, has spoken about feeling judged simply because she is President Donald Trump’s granddaughter (and Donald Trump Jr.’s daughter).

She obviously knows not everyone is a fan of her grandpa, and some people have even approached her to tell her that. But she still has lots of positive things to say about him on social media.

The president’s Fourth of July festivities garnered a lot of criticism online. People complained that his celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States felt too partisan. Multiple photos and videos circulating online suggested that the festivities did not draw large crowds, though the president has claimed otherwise.

In a new YouTube video, Kai shared her own perspective on the celebration, which she said was “really special.”

Kai said she felt so “patriotic” that day that she even listened to country music.

The implication seemed to be that country is not normally what Kai gravitates toward. Her Instagram also suggests that this is the case, as she adds songs to many of her posts. Recently, she’s used songs by Olivia Dean, Aerosmith, 50 Cent, and ABBA, among others.

Kai recently uploaded her reflection on YouTube, but it was filmed on the Fourth of July after the celebration had officially wrapped up. In spite of the bad weather that caused people to evacuate the area, Kai described it as “a great day” and said it was “really, really cool to see how many people showed up today for America’s birthday.”

“I felt very patriotic today,” she said. “I was even listening to country music.” She seemed to be suggesting that she doesn’t normally listen to country music, but also that she considers it to be inherently patriotic. Meanwhile, when she posted on Instagram in celebration of the Fourth of July, she selected “National Anthem” by Lana Del Rey to accompany the post.

The slideshow she posted included several photos and video clips from the celebration and she captioned it with, “Celebrating America’s 250th birthday! Happy 4th everyone. 🇺🇸”

In the comments, some people actually complained about Kai’s song choice, urging her to “read the room” and reminding her that Lana has actually spoken out against the president before. Interestingly, the post Kai uploaded prior to that one on June 29 also featured a Lana song, so perhaps she’s not too concerned about whether or not the singer supports her grandfather.

She also praised her grandpa.

In her YouTube reflection, Kai described the president as the “best grandpa ever” and said that they danced to “YMCA” together during the celebration. She also implied that some of the criticism directed at her grandpa is rooted in how he’s portrayed in the media.

According to her, anyone who spent time with him would “fall in love with him” — as long as they avoid talking about politics, that is.

“People will sometimes just believe what they see from the media, but one thing about my grandpa is that guy has such a great sense of humor,” Kai shared. “If you spend 30 minutes with him, and no, don’t talk about politics or anything—no, not anything political—but if you spend 30 minutes with the guy, you will fall in love with him because he is so funny and has one of the best personalities known to mankind.”

Obviously, not everyone feels the same way about him. But Kai also described him as “one of a kind” and “a character,” and those descriptors are probably far less controversial.

“It’s always great spending time with him because we get along so well and we have such a great relationship,” she added.

Kai claimed that tons of people were at the celebration.

After people mocked Trump for the photos and videos that made it look like almost no one attended his Great American State Fair, Donald tried to say that his Fourth of July festivities drew in large numbers of people.

Kai also perpetuated this same narrative in her video. “When they were doing the flyovers over the White House earlier, there were so many people,” she said. “There must have been like half a million people, and then it sucks because then it started raining and lightning, and everyone had to evacuate because of the lightning. So, no one could come back until like 10 o’clock at night, but there were so many people there. I’ve never seen so many people.”
