A lot of people are praising Kamala Harris for how she described the Trump administration during her book tour. But her blunt honesty has left some people wondering: Where was this energy when she was running for president? Currently, the former vice president is on tour to promote her book, 107 Days. During an event in Los Angeles, Harris spoke about the current political climate and how it might make people feel “like they’ve lost their minds.”
She reminded them that they haven’t. It’s the Trump administration, she suggested, that’s “crazy.”
“We are living history right now, and you all storytellers are living this,” she said. “You’re not passive observers, you know that. You’re living it, and I would ask you that all the emotions that we are feeling — give those emotions, give that experience to those people that you are writing about and writing for.”
The line that really stood out to people, however, was: “There is so much about this moment that is trying to make people feel like they’ve lost their minds, when in fact, these mothaf—as are crazy!”
On social media, some people said Harris was “100% right” because the Trump administration has mastered “the art of gaslighting.”

But others wondered why she waited until now to say something. “She was radio silent for hundreds of days after losing and only started speaking out again when she wanted to sell her book,” one critic wrote on Reddit. A few people also said she should’ve used similar language while campaigning.
“Lmao if she would have used that as a campaign slogan I would have died content,” another person wrote. Similarly, a third critic added, “Hey maybe you should have leaned hard on that last year.”
In response to the backlash, some people jumped to Harris’ defense. Responding to the critics who said Harris should’ve spoken this way during her presidential campaign, one person wrote, “Oh yeah because nobody would’ve overreacted to that would they? The woman wasn’t even allowed to f—ing laugh.”
Someone else hypothesized that Harris held back a bit during her campaign due to pressure. “It needed to be said, and bluntly,” they wrote. “Now that Kamala doesn’t have to worry about the pressures doing a presidential campaign she’s outta F’s to give.”

After the clip of Harris calling the Trump administration “mothaf—as” went viral, people pointed out that she had seemingly been waiting a while to use the word. Previously, someone asked Harris about her favorite curse word. She wouldn’t say it on camera at the time, but said “it starts with an M and ends with ‘uh.'”
On X, someone also noticed that she seemingly almost said the word during a presidential debate. When talking about Donald Trump, she said, “This …” and hesitated before landing on, “former president.”
People are pretty confident that she had wanted to say something something else. “Lol! She’s been holding it in since the last presidential debate,” one person wrote on X.
