A comment Ken Jennings made on social media had some right-wing outlets trying to use him as an example of someone who is anti-“woke” or eager to challenge progressives who they view as extreme. But the Jeopardy! host made it very clear that he doesn’t align with their agenda.
In a series of social media posts, Ken addressed the problematic coverage, which he said subtly framed him as transphobic. In reality, he said there’s probably not another issue he cares about more than trans rights.
The drama started because of Ken’s love for ‘New York Times’ games.
I saw yesterday that some right-wing outlets were running stories about me, which I’m used to. But this time I’m going to say something about it, because these were framed to imply that I was aligned with their own transphobia. ⬇️

Some conservative outlets reported on the fact that he still plays New York Times games and defended his subscription when someone called him out for it. On Bluesky, the person who called Ken out wrote, “I wish people who care about trans people could understand that playing nyt games is still an insult to trans people” after he shared screenshots of the New York Times Spelling Bee game.
Ken wrote back saying, “This may be true of others but I actually got express permission from the trans community to keep NYT games and recipes. I also have a news subscription, which is arguably worse, so I had to specifically send in a written request. Took 30 days but I got approved. They were like ‘Trans people are not a monolith’ and ‘Like-minded allies may disagree on specific media boycotts’ and stuff like that. It was a huge load off my mind!”
Some conservatives seemed to like the way Ken responded, or at least presented his response as in line with their agenda. But Ken clearly did not want them to appreciate his response.
In a follow-up post, he addressed right-wing coverage of the interaction.

He wanted people to know that he supports trans rights. “I saw yesterday that some right-wing outlets were running stories about me, which I’m used to,” Ken wrote on Bluesky. “But this time I’m going to say something about it, because these were framed to imply that I was aligned with their own transphobia.”
Just in case anyone believed the reports, he said, “For the record: NOPE. Honestly, I don’t think there’s an issue today I care about on a personal level more deeply than trans rights. And it’s rough out there right now. Bigots on one side of the political aisle and too many cowards on the other.”
He said his message defending his New York Times games subscription was just a “snarky reply.” His views have not changed. “Anyone who knows me even a little, or has even followed me long on social media, already knows this about me,” he continued. “Our institutions are literally trying to erase trans people right now, and it p—es me off. A snarky reply to one bad take on Bluesky doesn’t mean that’s changed at all.”
And yeah, Ken has posted some other things that make it pretty obvious he’s not conservative.
So that’s the thing to know, if you’re a tabloid that’s going to name-check me in another round of transphobic shit about Bluesky discourse. I don’t stand with you. I stand with my trans friends and family members. ⏹️

For example, earlier this year, he took to the same social media platform to assert, “The ‘prosecute the former regime at every level’ candidate has my vote in 2028.” So, he’s obviously not MAGA.
Posts like these are why people found it pretty hilarious (and ridiculous) that right-wing outlets were implying that he aligned with their beliefs. “trying to make ken jennings into an alt-right mouthpiece would be a mistake,” one person wrote on Reddit.
“This is how you combat bullshit news coverage trying to align your views with those of hateful bigots,” someone else argued. “It’s not that hard to clearly lay out your beliefs and condemn those of transphobes.”
However, some people still had a problem with Ken’s “snarky” response about his New York Times subscription. “this statement is good but in the midst of (an) intentional and international effort from right wing governments to erase trans people from existence maybe be more careful with your words and don’t get snarky when people are upset or act more defensively than normal,” another Redditor commented.
