It’s been about nine years since Hugh Hefner’s death, but every so often, we still hear more accounts of what life was like in the Playboy Mansion. Recently, former Playmate Kristina Shannon opened up about her experience and shared some of her uncomfortable memories. While she did say that Hugh did some “good things” for her, he ultimately made her feel very “controlled.”
Like other former Playmates, Kristina said there were cameras everywhere.
She didn’t feel like she had any sense of privacy, as she was being filmed and watched at all times, she told OK! magazine. “Everything I did, from the moment I woke up until I went to sleep, was on camera while I lived at the mansion,” she told the publication. “I was constantly being watched.”
This is similar to what other people familiar with Playboy Mansion have said in the past. Former Playmate Sondra Theodore once said that the cameras made Playmates uncomfortable. Hugh allegedly said he would turn them off, but never did.
“The first time I looked up at the two screens he had for the TV in the bedroom and I realized it was me, I’m like ‘Whoa, what are you doing?'” Sondra said previously. “And when we started bringing other people into the bedroom, some girls had the same reaction like ‘Whoa.'”
In addition to feeling watched, Kristina felt restricted.
She couldn’t necessarily make her own choices, because Hugh allegedly had “rules” that Playmates had to follow. One of his rules reportedly stopped her from traveling to Rome, Italy, which understandably made her feel like she was being “controlled.”
“I remember one time Hef wouldn’t let me go to Rome, Italy, to film a bigger part in the movie I was doing with Sofia Coppola,” she told the publication. “I was even put on room arrest because Hef wanted everyone back by midnight so he could have his orgies.”
She wasn’t the only one who had to deal with these kinds of restrictions. According to her, “it was a rule (Hugh) demanded everyone follow.”
She also mentioned the “bad things” that happened to her during that stage of her life.
And revealed that she has gone to therapy to process what had happened. Although she didn’t go into detail about the bad experiences she had, she emphasized that she was very young at the time.
Kristina and her twin sister, Karissa, were 18 years old when they met Hugh. He was 83. “I do appreciate some of the good things Hef did for me, but overall, everything was extremely controlled,” Kristina said.
She added, “A lot of good things happened while I was there, but a lot of bad things happened too, especially considering how young I was. Therapy and working with my psychiatrist have helped me tremendously.”
Previously, Kristina and her sister shared more details about their experience on Behind The Girls Next Door. They said they didn’t fully comprehend what living at the Playboy Mansion would entail until they got there, per People. On the night of their 19th birthday, Hugh allegedly gave them a pill and they felt “really f—ed up” afterwards.
Kristina had said, “After that night, I didn’t feel like my body was mine anymore. Like, I felt used, disgusted.”
