Lady Gaga Goes Makeup-Free To Perform ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Hit ‘Hold My Hand’ At Oscars

The Oscars, Hollywood’s big night, took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023. As part of the festivities, performers sing the tunes nominated for an Academy Award for best song. There was debate whether Lady Gaga would be able to perform "Hold My Hand" from the movie Top Gun: Maverick because of her current filming schedule for The Joker sequel, but she was able to make it all work.

Lady Gaga walked the champagne carpet in a daring Versace gown accessorized with smoky eyes and red lipstick. She changed for her performance, opting for ripped jeans and a T-shirt and no makeup, making a stark contrast to her first look.

Before she sang, Lady Gaga shared a message about the deeper meaning behind this all. "It's deeply personal for me," she explained. "I think that we all need each other. We need a lot of love to walk through this life. We all need a hero sometimes — there's heroes all around us in unassuming places. But you might find that you could be your own hero, even if you feel broken inside."

Lady Gaga’s black gown was first modeled by Gigi Hadid at the Versace’s Fall/Winter 2023 runway show in Los Angeles. The top portion of the gown is made up of a see-through mesh long-sleeve bodice with corset panels. The bottom is a low-waisted full skirt that gets a bit cheeky, exposing some of her backside. A diamond collar necklace and earrings completed the look.

This was Lady Gaga’s fourth nomination. It did not result in the star getting a new gold statue, which instead went to “Naatu Naatu” from the movie RRR. She previously won in 2019 for her song “Shallow” from the film A Star Is Born.
