Two Teens Accused Of Deliberately Killing Retired Cop In Hit-And-Run, Their Moms Speak Out

The mothers of two Las Vegas teens accused of deliberately running over and killing a retired police chief in August are now breaking their silence. Jesus Ayala, 17, and Jzamir Keys, 16, were arrested after they allegedly recorded themselves hitting 64-year-old Andreas Probst, who was seen riding his bicycle on a neighborhood street. The video appears to show the teens speed off after striking the retired officer. The teens were arrested and, according to a judge's ruling on Wednesday, will now be charged as adults.

The mothers, both who remain unnamed, have differing views when it comes to their sons' actions in what appears to be a deliberate hit-and-run. “I don’t know why he did this,” Ayala’s mother spoke out. “I don’t know if God can forgive this.”

Meanwhile, Keys' mother stated via text message, “My son’s side of the story will be told, ‘the truth,’ not the inaccuracies the media will try to portray.” Keys was the passenger who allegedly recorded the video.

The video appears to show Ayala driving a Hyundai Elantra on August 14, 2023. Keys allegedly sat in the passenger seat, filming the entire incident.

The vehicle, which was stolen, is seen rear-ending another car before coming up on Probst, who was casually riding his bike. Ayala is reportedly heard asking his friend if he was "ready," to which Keys responded, “Yeah, hit his [expletive].”

The teen appears to speed up the car and honk the horn at the retired officer, but without enough time for him to move out of the way. Though the video gets cut off at this point, Probst was reportedly thrown into the air.

The next part of the video shows the teens laughing and flying away, with a rearview depiction of Probst lying on the ground, where he was left to die. Ayala was arrested the day of the hit-and-run, but it took law enforcement five weeks to capture Keys.

The teens face murder charges with a deadly weapon, battery, and attempted murder, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Watson. Probst’s family believes that the horrific killing was caused by the effect “social media has on our youth."

It was also noted that prior to killing the retired officer, the teens allegedly committed other crimes that day as well. They are accused of running over a 72-year-old man, ramming into another vehicle, and stealing four cars.
