Laura Loomer Says ‘Bad Parenting’ Is To Blame For Babies Crying on Planes

Alt-right activist and MAGA loyalist Laura Loomer recently took to social media to complain about babies crying on planes, and people have a lot to say about it. For one, Laura is not a parent herself, but she blamed the baby’s crying on “bad parenting.” It’s also not lost on people that conservatives often push people to have kids, and yet Laura is acting offended by parents and babies existing in public.

On March 22, Laura took to X to write, “Is there anything worse than a crying baby on a plane? I wish parents would control their children. It’s so disruptive. I refuse to believe a baby cries for 10 hours. At some point this is just bad parenting, right?”

And no, people don’t really think she’s correct about that.

Obviously, Laura is not the first person to ever complain about babies crying on flights. But parents know how stressful it is to not only deal with a crying baby, but all of the judgement that comes along with it. Even some conservatives tried to urge Laura to consider the parents’ perspectives before publicly complaining about kids.

“It’s so hard and stressful for parents to travel with kids,” conservative commentator Sara Gonzales responded. “Unless the parents are completely ignoring the kids and not trying to comfort them, please give them grace. Some of us do the best we can, but we can’t be banished from society because we have kids.”

Someone else said, “No one is more miserable than the parents in that moment. They’re dealing with their child AND worrying about you.” And some argued that Laura’s unsolicited opinion on the topic made it very clear that she doesn’t have kids, because just in case no one’s told her before, babies cry, and air travel can be uncomfortable for them. People couldn’t figure out what Laura expected parents to do. As one person put it, “you think babies have an off button or what?

“Flying, specifically, the pressure, hurts the ears of babies & kids,” another critic explained to Laura. “They don’t know how to deal with it. It has NOTHING to do with parenting…I would never think to blame the parents. They’re doing their best.”

But Laura doubled down.

Author Stephen King shared Laura’s controversial post and wrote, “Are you for real?” Laura wrote back with, “Yeah I am.” Again, a lot of people tried to explain to Laura that parents already feel bad about this. “I think for the majority of parents, this is one of the hardest things for us,” one parent commented. “We know it’s hard for the rest of the plane, we feel the tension and feel bad. Most of us are trying our best to calm them.”

Some people even offered Laura some advice, like maybe try wearing headphones and enjoying a movie? But others were far less polite. Several people joked that the baby was probably crying due to being seated near Laura. “Being in your vicinity I’d be crying for 10 hours as well,” someone commented. Another person told Laura that they actually could think of something worse than listening to a baby cry for hours. “Yeah, there is something worse,” they wrote. “Being the parent of an inconsolable baby on a plane and having you on there too.”

To be fair, 10 hours seems like a long time.

If a baby were truly crying for 10 hours straight, some people found that concerning (not that it necessarily made them side with Laura). But others assumed that it was hyperbole. “So the baby cried a few times during the duration of the flight and she decided to inflate the whole thing classic MAGA style,” one person concluded on Reddit. Besides, where’s the compassion? “What a horrible attitude,” another critic wrote. “I personally always feel so bad for these babies.”
