The Small Memorial Outside Lindsey Graham’s Office Is Drawing Unexpected Attention

When Sen. Lindsey Graham died of complications related to cardiovascular disease, other politicians, including Donald Trump, released statements and social  media posts in honor of him. But when it comes to any sort of tribute in real life, including the space outside of Graham’s Washington, D.C. office, the response was a little lacking.

In photos shared on X, you can see that someone slapped a few Post-it notes on the wall outside of the office. There are some well wishes on those notes, which may have all been written by the same person, if you believe the faux handwriting analysis experts on X. There are also some flowers, but the whole scene looks more like a hasty tribute than a heartfelt gesture, and people are even theorizing that an intern was tasked with making it look like more people cared about the late senator.

It seems like one person wrote on all the Post-its outside of Lindsey Graham’s office.

The user who shared the photos on X wrote, “I would hope someone would at least make it look like four different people wrote Post-it notes for me.” The notes were all placed directly under Graham’s nameplate on the wall next to his office door. One says, “Thank you for your service!” Another, seemingly in the same handwriting, says, “We will miss you!”

And really, the messages seem more like retirement sentiments than what you might say to a colleague who suddenly dies. And, as the X user added in the comments under his post, it’s hard not to imagine that someone was literally instructed to write and post those notes outside of Graham’s office, if only for the optics.

“I’m having major secondhand embarrassment here for the intern they had write up four Post-it notes and take the flowers that were around the office and put them outside with a table,” he wrote.

Another person commented, “Post-it notes. How very touching and heartfelt. They really went all out, didn’t they?” You can’t really argue with that, regardless of how you feel about Graham.

The flowers in remembrance were also paced awkwardly.

In addition to the notes, one of which calls Graham an “amazing brother,” there are flowers. A few vases and plants, to be exact. There is one small vase of roses on a small table that may or may not have already been there prior to Graham’s death. Then, there are flowers placed below the table for some discernable reason. The entire setup is strange, especially since the idea seems to be to honor Graham after he died unexpectedly.

Someone commented on the X post, “Even in death, Capitol Hill keeps it looking like a group project.”

Donald Trump commemorated him by having flags lowered at half-staff.

Trump wrote multiple social media posts about Graham following his death. The White House shared a photo of Graham wearing a MAGA hat in support of Graham to commemorate him after he died. And then, Trump ordered American flags in the United States to be lowered to half-staff in honor of Graham.

That still doesn’t take away from the fact that Post-it notes and sad flowers and plants were used to honor Graham at his place of work in D.C. That’s a picture that most people probably can’t get out of their heads.
