68-Year-Old Lowe’s Employee Tries To Stop Shoplifter From Stealing But Gets Fired Instead

In an unfortunate turn of events, a dedicated Lowe’s employee, who had worked for the home improvement retailer for 13 years, found herself facing an unforeseen and devastating consequence for her noble intentions. Donna Hansbrough, a hardworking and loyal employee, was terminated after attempting to intervene in a shoplifting incident at the store she worked at.

The incident, covered by The Big Weekend Show on Fox News, has sparked a discussion about the fine line between employee safety, store policies, and social responsibility in the retail industry.

Donna, 68, worked for Lowe's for many years, but recently found herself in a tough situation.

She not only received a termination notice but also sustained a black eye while attempting to apprehend shoplifters. These shoplifters were attempting to steal more than $2,000 worth of merchandise from a Lowe's store in Georgia.

Donna stated, “The guy decided he wanted me to let go, so he punched me. I grabbed my glasses still held onto the cart, and he punched me again, and again.” She then continued with tears in her eyes, “It’s not my fault but I feel bad at the same time … I don’t know … I’m emotionally mixed.”

She added, “I love my job … loved my job. I enjoyed working with the people I work with, I enjoyed helping the customers, I enjoyed everything about it. You know you have your perfect job, that one was mine.”

After the interview with Donna was done, the hosts of The Big Weekend Show on Fox discussed how differently shoplifting incidents are handled nowadays. One of the hosts, Charlie Hurt commented: “The thing that absolutely slays me about this is listening to her talk about how much she loved her job and how much purpose it gave her. It really does sort of come down to are you going to side with workers or criminals?”

I think most people would agree with Charlie on his comment. If there is an employee willing to attempt to stop a shoplifter from stealing, you should praise their hard work and dedication, not fire them for it. It is truly beyond me why they chose to let Donna go when it seems like she was one of their best employees.
