People have noticed that the women in President Donald Trump’s circle have started looking more and more alike. As time has gone on, it seems like they’ve all embraced the same dramatic and distinctive look, which some Trump critics have called the “Mar-a-Lago face.” It never really seemed like a coincidence, but now, a report from the Wall Street Journal makes it clear that it isn’t.
Turns out, some conservative women are actually taking classes to learn how to achieve this look.
A makeup artist who has done makeup for Karoline Leavitt and Lara Trump has shared her tips with numerous Trump staffers.
And based on the recent report, it sounds like they’ve put a lot of money into trying to master “Mar-a-Lago face.” Recently, makeup artist Adrienne Gray, 37, hosted a masterclass where she did a live makeup tutorial in front of 60 women who were either Trump admin staffers or right-wing influencers. At the event, she reportedly said, “It’s not your everyday Hailey-Bieber-clean-girl makeup.”
These women reportedly paid $250 each to learn how to achieve this “niche” conservative look. And just in case the Trump ties weren’t clear, Gray led this masterclass at the Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C.
It also sounds quite time consuming.
Which makes sense. Just by looking at the women in Trump’s circle, it’s clear that minimalistic makeup is not what’s popular among them. And although “Mar-a-Lago face” has been mocked by some critics, there’s clearly a lot of time and effort that goes into this particular makeup routine.
The Wall Street Journal reported that there are actually more than 24 steps in the routine that Gray showed attendees. Gray has done makeup for several high-profile conservative women, but perhaps she mastered this particular style through personal experience as well, given that she was previously a Fox News commentator.
People have long suspected that Trump himself has something to do with this trend.
After all, it’s specifically popular among women who are in close proximity to him. Understandably, Trump critics have wondered whether women in this circle feel pressured to conform to Trump’s expectations of how women should look.
Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is one of the more obvious examples of someone who has gone through an apparent Mar-a-Lago transformation. After she spent some time working for Trump, people started noticing Leavitt’s fuller lips and Trump himself even made a weird comment about them.
“Isn’t she great? Is Karoline great?” Trump said in 2025. “You know, when she goes on television, Fox, like, I mean, they dominate, they dominate when she gets up there with that beautiful face.”
He continued, “And those lips that don’t stop. Pop-pop-pop like a little machine gun.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene has referred to it as “Mar-a-Lago sexualization.”
After breaking up with Trump’s MAGA movement, Greene said she didn’t like the message that was being communicated to conservative women. She said, “I never liked the MAGA Mar-a-Lago sexualization. I believe how women in leadership present themselves sends a message to younger women.”
“I have two daughters, and I’ve always been uncomfortable with how those women puff up their lips and enlarge their breasts,” she added.
