Man In Wheelchair Gets Stuck On Railway Tracks So Cop Does The Impossible To Set Him Free

In the quiet morning hours, the sun was beaming down in Lodi, California. As the day began, no one would have ever suspected that things were soon going to set off in a completely chaotic and life-threatening direction.

According to NBC News, Lodi police officer Erika Urrea and Sgt. Steve Maynard were out on patrol in the Central Valley community when they discovered a 66-year-old man in a wheelchair stuck on railway tracks.

In normal circumstances, police and emergency services would likely extricate the individual with a little time and the right equipment, but according to officials, a train was due to come down those tracks at 8:44 a.m., which was fast approaching.

Officer Urrea told NBC Nightly News that she spotted the individual out of the corner of her eye and it was like he was “almost wiggling” which made her realize he was likely stuck on the tracks.

The body cam footage shows Officer Urrea sprinting from her police vehicle and running to the individual in the wheelchair. She pulled him up and out of the chair and out of the way of the approaching train, which ended up smashing into the man’s wheelchair.

Officer Urrea later told the news outlet that at that moment, she didn’t really have time to be scared as she knew she needed to act quickly to save the man’s life. In hindsight, she admits that it was likely the “scariest incident” she’s been involved with thus far in her 14-year career.
