What to Know
As President Donald Trump bragged about ending eight wars during his State of the Union address, people noticed that Marco Rubio appeared to be questioning his life choices. Much like Vice President JD Vance, Rubio was once a vocal critic of Trump. To be fair, Trump and Rubio were opponents in the 2016 Republican presidential primary, so that might explain some of his anti-Trump comments.
However, given that he’s now part of the Trump administration, some of the comments he previously made about the current president recently resurfaced. For example, he once described Trump as a “con artist.” He also said, “For years to come, there are many people on the right, in the media, and voters at large, that are going to be having to explain and justify how they fell into this trap of supporting Donald Trump because this is not going to end well, one way or the other.” Yet now, he’s one of those people. And the look on his face during Trump’s speech has people convinced that he really did sell his soul.
He did not look like he wanted to be there.
One person shared a screenshot of Rubio during Trump’s State of the Union speech on X and captioned it with, “Why does Marco Rubio look so sad?” People offered lots of guesses, though most of them were along the lines of “he sold his soul” and “his career is basically over after this.”
Someone speculated, “He’s finally realizing how bad he has screwed himself and his aspirations of ever becoming anything other than another one of trump’s bootlickers and he will carry that the rest of his life.” And another person wrote, “Because he sold his soul to this administration and knows he f—ed up in an [irreversible] way?….”

A clip of Rubio also went viral.
In the clip, Trump says, “The country has never been stronger. In my first 10 months, I ended eight wars.” And the expression on Rubio’s face really says it all. As one person on X put it, “If you ever need to find what a person who sold their soul looks like, look no further than this man.” Another person described the clip as “proof marco literally sold his soul to be in this administration.” Someone else simply wrote, “Is he OK?”

Although this particular moment garnered a lot of attention, several people said they’ve noticed Rubio looking like that a lot lately. Could it be a sign? Someone theorized, “He looks allllmost completely done with trump.”
