Sometimes people commit horrible criminal offenses and go through the court process, but things don’t always end up quite as the majority of the public would like to see.
Such is the case for this story, shared by Inside Edition, in which a former teacher in Texas pleaded guilty to sexually abusing her 13-year-old student.
Marka Bodine appeared to have found her calling with teaching, as it all seemed so effortless for her, but the 32-year-old was hiding something huge. She sexually abused a 13-year-old male student for three years, including sending him sexually explicit photos, videos, and texts.
The student told investigators that the teacher befriended him while playing an online game and later sent him text messages. The authorities have also stated that she and the student even engaged in sexual activity in her classroom and vehicle.
So, what was this former teacher sentenced to? Even though prosecutors asked for a prison term of up to 40 years, in the end, Bodine received a 60-day prison sentence.
A number of parents of students at the school in which Bodine worked are outraged and confused by the light sentencing.
Jennifer Kratky, the mother of a student whom Bodine taught social studies at Tomball Intermediate School outside of Houston, spoke out: “It’s really upsetting. To find out that she was only given 60 days, it’s unbelievable. And I think our community deserves answers for why that sentence was decided.”
It’s reported that Bodine’s victim and his mother were alarmed and upset by the sentence as well.
