Martin Short is not dating Meryl Streep. The actor and comedian, 73, recently addressed the rumors while speaking to Bill Maher on an episode of his podcast Club Random with Bill Maher.
Rumors that Martin and Meryl, 74, are dating began circulating after the Golden Globes ceremony on January 7, 2024, because the Only Murders in the Building costars looked like they could have a connection — or even be in love, as some social media users suggested. Bill even made a comment on the podcast about the pair being a "power couple."
Martin said the rumors aren't true: he and Meryl are not a "power couple," because they're not dating.
“We’re not a couple, we are just very close friends,” Martin said on the podcast.
Even if they aren't dating, Bill said they should consider it. “Well, you should because there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple,” he joked.

"It worked for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, it worked for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie," Bill pointed out.
Plus, many social media users seem to think Martin and Meryl belong together.
"Sitting with the knowledge that Meryl Streep and Martin Short might be in love but I have no proof," one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
"I miss seeing meryl streep and martin short together (it's been thirteen days, but it feels like an eternity)," another fan wrote on the platform.
Meryl Streep's separation from her husband, Don Gummer, whom she shares four kids with, was confirmed in October 2023. In October, Page Six reported that Meryl and Don have actually been separated for more than six years.
Martin married Nancy Dolman in 1980, and lost her to ovarian cancer in 2010. She was 58 years old. They share three children.
In 2019, Martin spoke to AARP the Magazine about losing his wife. "Our marriage was a triumph," he said at the time. "So it's tough. She died in 2010, but I still communicate with her all the time. It's 'Hey Nan,' you know?" he told the magazine. "How would she react to this decision or that, especially regarding our three kids."
A rep for Martin also denied the dating rumors about Martin and Meryl earlier this month. The rep told People that Martin and Meryl "are just very good friends, nothing more."
Though Martin and his rep both say the rumors aren't true, some fans don't want to believe it.
"Meryl Streep & Martin Short allegedly dating is now my Roman Empire," one person wrote on X.
