Katherine Short, the daughter of actor Martin Short, died by suicide according to the official death certificate. TMZ reports that the 42-year-old died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The death certificate does not state a timenor a date but a report from the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office listed Monday as the date of death.
“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,” the Short family statement released to PEOPLE read on Feb. 24.
According to the report, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to call from a Hollywood Hills home Monday evening.
Martin Short and his wife, actress Nancy Dolman, adopted three children together: Katherine, born 1983; Oliver, born 1986; and Henry, born 1989. Dolman died of ovarian cancer in 2010.
After the death, Martin Short skipped the 2026 Actor Awards ceremony. He was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
